Values Based Recruitment

The purpose of recruitment is for potential new members and chapter members to get to know
each other well enough for both to take the first step toward an important lifetime choice.
Stuff doesn't create sisterhood, but people do. You will find your home by talking to the women and getting to know the chapter.
Each organization is unique, but we share many similarities. Take the time to get to know the values of each sorority and ensure they align with your own. They, in turn, are looking for their values in you so be confident, authentic and let yourself shine.

Policies and Values

Alcohol Policy

The purpose of recruitment is to facilitate a safe and comfortable environment for Potential New Members in which they can learn about the different organizations and vice versa. Therefore, there is no alcohol permitted at any recruitment event and info night until 24 hours after Bid Day.

Hazing Policy

The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC), one of the world’s largest organizations advocating
for women, is the umbrella group for 26 inter/national sororities. NPC supports efforts to eliminate hazing. NPC has adopted Unanimous Agreement IV, which condemns hazing and hazing-related behaviors. Hazing and hazing-related activities contradict all expectations of the proper behavior expected of the undergraduate and alumnae members of NPC member organizations as set forth in Unanimous Agreement IV, Standards of Ethical Conduct.

Each NPC member organization has its own set of bylaws, policies and rules condemning hazing and governing the investigation and discipline involving hazing allegations, as is the case with each individual college or university — whether public or private.

A strong majority of states have adopted legislation that makes hazing a crime which can be punished by fines and/or imprisonment as a misdemeanor or felony. Any allegation of sorority hazing is taken seriously. NPC offers its members education about risk-based behaviors through its “Something of Value” programming and supports nationally recognized HazingPrevention.org. Several of its 26 member sororities also support a national anti-hazing hotline: 1-888-NOT-HAZE or 1-888-668-4293.

Rules and Policies: Recruitment

Strict-Silence Policy

Strict silence is observed only between the end of preference events and bid distribution. Active members and Potential New members (PNMs) are not permitted to speak during this period. This is to ensure that each PNM is making an independent decision as to what sorority join free from influence, coercion or promisies. Normal friendly contact shall be advocated for at all other times.

Attendance Policy

Although it is not mandatory to attend every recruitment round, a PNM  must visit each organization at least once to be eligible for a bid. It is highly encouraged to go to all the different rounds so as a PNM you have a better idea of which organization you prefer and it gives the organizations more time to get to know you as well.
