Open Houses

September 20th, 23rd-24th, 2020
7:00pm - 9:00 pm
Location: will be included in email upon registration.

Our open house days consist of three days of rotations between our two groups recruiting. This year, the groups participating in formal recruitment are Kappa Kappa Gamma and Alpha Omicron Pi. You are not required to attend all three days, however you must attend at least one 45 minute event from each organization in order to be eligible for a bid. In each open house round, you will be guided by the Panhellenic team to visit both groups.

We encourage you to attend as many events as possible as this is your opportunity to get to know the members of the individual sororities and their organizations better. They are also looking to get to know you (think networking, but more intimate and fun).

The best way for sorority women to get to know is to talk about your passions, your goals, your accomplishments, what you value in your life, and how your values shape who you are!

This is the last round of recruitment and is an invitation only event. You must have attended at least one event from each organization to be eligible for a preference night invitation by way of mutual selction. You can accept as many invitations to this night as you receive.

This night will give you a sneak peak of some of the organizations' traditions and hopefully help you decide on the right sorority for you. We encourage everyone to go in with an open mind and an open heart.

FAQ

Got more questions? Find answers to them here! We are here for you whenever you need us, and don't hesitate to reach out if you do not see your question answered!

WILL I BE HAZED?

Absolutely not. UW Sororities and the National Panhellenic Conference have strict anti-hazing policies. We view hazing as one of the most dangerous and destructive practices that organizations can partake in and we fundamentally reject it.

WHAT IS RECRUITMENT?

Recruitment is the process by which sororities meet and get to know women interested in membership and vice versa!

Our main recruitment event is called formal recruitment. It normally occurs in the first few weeks of September. Formal recruitment consists of two 'rounds’: open houses and preference night. After these rounds, formal recruitment ends with Bid day, which is where the women receive invitations of membership (called a ‘Bid’) to their respective sororities and celebrate!

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR FORMAL RECRUITMENT?

Registration for Formal Recruitment opens in August. Be sure to follow WaterlooSororities on all social media accounts, as well as the individual chapters. This will ensure that you never miss an update!

I MISSED FORMAL RECRUITMENT; CAN I STILL JOIN A SORORITY THIS YEAR?

Yes! Although formal recruitment is our main recruitment event, chapters often also hold additional events throughout the year. However, this informal recruitment process is done on an as-needed basis and so not all chapters participate in/hold these events. For that reason, we do strongly encourage interested women to go through formal recruitment!

WHAT DO YOU TALK ABOUT DURING RECRUITMENT?

Sororities are values-based organizations. This means that you receive a ‘Bid’ from a chapter based on your values. Before each round, it is important to prepare. Think job interview style – just a little bit more intimate! The best way for sorority women to get to know you would be to talk about your passions, your goals, your accomplishments, what you value in your life, and how your values shape who you are!

IF I GO THROUGH RECRUITMENT DO I HAVE TO JOIN?

Going through recruitment does not mean you are obligated to join a sorority. The objective of recruitment is to meet all the different sororities on our campus and see what they can offer you. Hopefully you will make some incredible and genuine connections, but if you feel sororities are not for you during the process, we will understand if you do not wish to continue with recruitment. Going through recruitment and attending the functions does not commit you to joining!
